Joelle Abou Chabke

Born in Lebanon, Joëlle Abou Chabké graduated from ALBA University in 2012 with a master’s  degree in cinema directing. Since 2008, Joëlle has been working as a director, editor, D.O.P and  sound recordist on several films. 

Her filmography includes the short documentary “Pas de ports pour les petits bateaux”, that won the  Tanit d’Argent in the Carthage film festival (JCC) 2017 and Best International Short Documentary  in Cinéma Sous les Étoiles, Canada 2019. She also directed the two short, experimental 8mm films “Did you see the  woman?”, screened during les Rencontres du Cinéma Documentaire, Périphérie Montreuil  in 2018, and “Aller-retour”, co-directed with Victor Borja that won the second prize at Regard  Indépendant festival in Nice in 2019. 

In 2016, she shot the feature documentary “Counting Tiles” on the island of Lesbos, Greece,  directed by Cynthia Choucair, which premiered at the Rotterdam film festival and competed  in many other festivals. She is currently working as a sound recordist on a feature documentary  “We are Inside” by Farah Kassem. 

In 2017, she moved to France and completed her second master’s degree in documentary  filmmaking at Paris 7 Diderot (DEMC). She is currently developing her first feature film,  “Ourjouwan”.
